Save the Smiths
Despite a forty-four-year run, the strip existed in no public archive. This project is that archive.

Despite a forty-four-year run in papers that included The Boston Globe, The Smith Family existed in no public archive. Clippings yellowed in attics. Sundays were thrown out with the recycling. Every day, another piece of mid-century American culture disappears — not because it wasn’t loved, but because no one stepped in to save it in time.
The Smith Family Comic Archive Project preserves, digitizes, and shares that 44-year legacy free of charge with students, researchers, and the public. The Smith Family Comic is a 501(c)(3) public charity. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
We take clippings, stories, and help with the cost of keeping the scans online. If you grew up with the strip — or if you have a Sunday page in a drawer — write us. If you can spare a gift, it goes to the work of keeping George and Virginia’s kitchen on the record.
Smiles lift the spirit, warm the heart, and edify.
